BASEBALL

Crescenta Valley 12, Muir 0 (five innings): For the first time since 2008, the Falcons can call themselves Pacific League champions.

On the strength of Tuesday’s road win, coupled with Arcadia’s 4-2 loss to Burroughs, the Falcons (19-7, 11-2) clinched a share of the league crown heading into Friday’s finale against three-time defending champion Arcadia. But, it wasn’t exactly the approach Falcons Coach Phil Torres wanted, especially after losing, 5-2, to red-hot Pasadena on Monday.

“That’s just on paper now,” said Torres of the league title. “Our main deal is to come out and play on Friday like we can and show everybody what kind of club we are.”

In addition, Torres wants to avoid a loss as a Burbank win over Burroughs on Friday, coupled with a CV loss, would force a three-way tie atop the league going into next week’s CIF postseason.

“We still gotta win Friday, cause if we lose, there’s a three-way tie and there’s going to be coin flips and all that mumbo jumbo. The main thing is go out, relax and play like we can.”

On Tuesday, Cole Currie spun a five-inning shutout with eight strikeouts. Michael Russo continued his torrid season with two triples and a double and Troy Mulcahey added a pair of doubles.

Pasadena 6, Glendale 3: Jason Marquez pitched a complete game and went two for three with a run batted in for the Nitros (4-18, 2-13 in league) in Tuesday’s Pacific League loss.

Dillion Howard had a triple and scored a run and Evan Norton had a double.

Burbank 8, Hoover 0: The Tornadoes fell to 5-16-1 and 3-10 in the Pacific League on Tuesday.

Flintridge Prep 12, Yeshiva 3: Daniel Enzminger pitched four innings to collect the win in his first career start and was backed by four RBI from Karlsen Termini (three for five) in the nonleague affair Tuesday at the Glendale Sports Complex.

Brendan McKiernan and Steve Fleming (three RBI) both went three for four for Prep (7-15).
