CIF recognizes four local squads in preseason polls

Four local high school teams received preseason top-10 rankings Wednesday by the CIF Southern Section office.

A pair of boys’ water polo squads and one football and girls’ volleyball team were selected.

The Glendale boys’ water polo team, which won the Pacific League championship last season, is ranked No. 4 in Division V, while Crescenta Valley is sixth.

The St. Francis football team, which qualified for the playoffs last season, is fifth in the Western Division. The Golden Knights are one of five teams from the Mission League to be ranked, joining Gardena Serra (No. 1), Chaminade (No. 3). Harvard-Westlake (No. 6) and St. Paul (No. 7).

Holy Family’s volleyball team, which shared the Horizon League title last season, is 10th in Division V-AA.
