SPORTS ROUNDUP: Falcons improve to 4-1 in league

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Crescenta Valley 15, Burroughs 3: Sweeps from their No. 1 and No. 2 singles players, as well as their No. 1 doubles team, paced the Falcons to a Pacific League road win on Tuesday.

Alexa Gregorian went 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, while Selin Ayvazian posted wins of 6-0, 6-2, 6-4 and the tandem of Viktoriya Shumakova and Sarah Yaghoubi won all three of their sets by 6-2 scores.

No. 3 singles Natalie Davidian added 6-1, 6-0 wins for Crescenta Valley (6-2, 4-1 in league), which also got doubles wins from Angela Seo and Sarah Oh, 6-3, 6-0, and Annie Park and Ashlee An, 6-3.

Arcadia 16, Hoover 2: Sara Kim notched a singles win, 6-4, and Kristine Adzhemyan and Diana Karapetyan notched a 6-4 doubles win for the Tornadoes (1-6, 1-3) in Tuesday’s home Pacific League loss.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Hoover 3, Muir 0: The Tornadoes swept the host Mustangs, 25-6, 25-16, 25-7, on Tuesday to improve to 3-6 and 1-1 in the Pacific League.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Crescenta Valley at Woodbridge Invitational: The Falcons won the boys’ juniors race on Saturday, claiming the top three spots, as Gabe Collison won in 15 minutes 7 seconds, followed by Matt Manalo (15:19) and Nick Beatty (15:25). Other scorers in the race were Andrew Hart (ninth, 15:51) and Casey Magid (22, 16:13).

In the senior race, Aaron Esparza was third in 15:24.

In the sophomore race, Andrew Rowton took seventh in 16:11.

On the day, the Falcons had a total team score of 77:06, which was 11th fastest among boys’ teams and sixth among Division I teams.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Crescenta Valley at Woodbridge Invitational: The Falcons took fourth in the girls’ varsity race on Saturday, led by Erika Johnson’s second-place run of 17 minutes 45 seconds.

Megan Melnyk was 18th in 18:27, Hannah Ruby was 20th in 18:31, Haley Witzeman was 21st in 18:32 and Cali King took 31st in 18:52. The girls had a team time of 92:07 and this ranked the girls 27th over the two-day meet of 196 schools.
