Players bestowed with season-ending awards
SOUTHEAST GLENDALE —- The Glendale YMCA Quarterback Club, in its 70th year, meets Tuesdays at the Elk’s Lodge. The following are odds and ends from the 11th and final meeting of the year.
COACHES HAND OUT AWARDS
Each of the four area high school football teams affiliated with the Glendale YMCA Quarterback Club handed out their respective awards at Tuesday’s meeting.
St. Francis, which advanced to the CIF Southern Section Western Division playoffs, had a trio of players who were awarded plaques. Senior quarterback Jared Lebowitz was selected the team’s most valuable player. Senior wide receiver Tommy Scheper, who carries a 4.3 grade-point average, earned the team’s scholar athlete award. Sophomore quarterback Jeremiah Martin was named the junior varsity team’s most valuable player.
Crescenta Valley selected senior defensive back Chad Eggertson as the team’s most valuable player. Senior defensive back Jeff Saengsri (4.25 GPA) garnered the team’s scholar athlete award. Sophomore quarterback Brian Gadsby was named the junior varsity most valuable player, though he started and won the last two games at the varsity level.
Glendale’s varsity most valuable player was senior wide receiver Michael Davis, who will attend Brigham Young University. The Nitros’ scholar athlete award went to senior offensive /defensive lineman Patrick Novshadian (3.7 GPA). Sophomore running back Luis Ruiz was selected the junior varsity most valuable player.
Hoover senior running back Jesse Pina was selected as the Tornadoes’ MVP and senior running back/linebacker Colin Roach (3.7 GPA) earned the team’s scholar athlete award. Hoover’s junior varsity most valuable player award was awarded to sophomore fullback/linebacker Vaughn Parawan.
The awards are presented in the form of scholarship funds donated by the Glendale YMCA Quarterback Club.
VAQUEROS ACCEPT TEAM ACCOLADES
Though Glendale Community College finished 1-9 and 1-5 in the Pacific Conference’s American Division for the second season in a row, many of its players excelled on the field and in the classroom.
The Vaqueros’ most valuable player, as voted on by the team’s coaching staff, was awarded to sophomore running back Collin Keoshian. Keoshian, who transferred to Glendale from College of the Canyons after attending Brigham Young University, rushed for 1,265 yards.
The recipient for academic performance went to sophomore offensive lineman Spencer Lee, who sports a 3.3 grade-point average.
With each award, a scholarship is handed out by the Glendale YMCA Quarterback Club.
