Robert Henry sparks GCC men’s basketball to division home victory

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale Community College 79, College of the Canyons 73: Robert Henry scored 21 points, including five three-pointers, and Gor Plavachyan had 20 points and 12 rebounds Wednesday to pace the host Vaqueros in a Western State Conference South Division contest. Glendale improved to 11-13, 3-6 in the division.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 5, East L.A. College 2: Edgar Montes hit a home run and drove in two runs Tuesday to lead the host Vaqueros (2-3) in a nonconference home game at Stengel Field. Starting pitcher Angel Rodriguez allowed one run in five innings to pick up the win. Tyler Delzell recorded the save.

MEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 5, Saddleback Community College 4: Host Glendale (3-1) picked up a nonconference win Tuesday. Andrew You and Gaspar Macalutas teamed up for a 9-8(9-7) doubles win, fighting off five match points.

Glendale also got an 8-5 doubles victory from Dat Le and Phillip Lam.

GCC got singles victories from Macalutas (6-1, 6-1), Le (6-3, 6-1) and Lam (6-4, 6-2).

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 9, Cypress College 0: The visiting Vaqueros (3-2) picked up a nonconference win Tuesday. Glendale received singles wins from Sofia Tavitian (6-2, 6-4), Allie Amour (6-0, 5-7, 10-3), Ashley Sumudio (6-3, 6-1), Sydney Farzadkish (6-3, 2-6, 10-6), Amanda Dring (6-3, 6-1) and Fnu Nerrissa (6-2, 6-2).

Glendale got doubles victories from Tavitian and Amour (8-2), Sumudio and Dring (8-5) and Farzadkish and Nerrissa (8-0).
