Flintridge Prep boys’ basketball set for rematch with Santa Clara

The following are playoff previews for Tuesday’s events involving local teams.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Santa Clara at Flintridge Prep, 7 p.m.: The second-seeded Rebels (21-7) have seen plenty of Santa Clara (16-11) in recent postseasons. The Rebels, who won the Prep League title, will try again against the Saints in a Division V-AA quarterfinal contest. It will mark the third time in the last four years that the teams have met in the playoffs, with the Saints dispatching the Rebels in 2010 and 2012.

Flintridge Prep cruised to a 67-47 second-round road win against Lancaster Desert Christian on Friday.

Santa Clara is coming off a 68-57 second-round victory against Linfield Christian. The Saints, seeded seventh, finished third in the Tri-Valley League.

The winner will face third-seeded Mission Prep or sixth-seeded Saddleback Valley Christian in a semifinal game Friday.

Crescenta Valley at Edison, 7 p.m.: Fourth-seeded Crescenta Valley (21-7) got a career-high 32 points from Nick Springer on Friday to post an 80-42 CIF Southern Section Division I-A first-round home win against Paloma Valley.

Thirteenth-seeded Edison (17-11) began with playoffs with a 64-61 home victory against Pacific after finishing second in the Sunset League.

The winner will meet fifth-seeded San Clemente or 12th-seeded Long Beach Milikan in a quarterfinal game Friday.

St. Francis at Oak Park, 7 p.m.: Seventh-seeded St. Francis (17-13) posted CIF Southern Section Division III-A wins against Lompoc (56-34) on Wednesday and San Dimas (61-38) on Friday. It figures to have its toughest test on deck against second-seeded Oak Park in a quarterfinal contest.

Oak Park (26-3) won the Tri-Valley League and netted an 80-51 second-round win against Pacific on Friday.

The winner will take on third-seeded Chaminade or 11th-seeded Tahquitz in a semifinal game Friday.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Pasadena Poly at Crescenta Valley, 3 p.m.: Crescenta Valley (15-2-2) and Poly (17-1-1) began the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs with shutout home victories Thursday.

The Falcons, who finished second in the Pacific League, earned a 1-0 win against San Luis Obispo. The Panthers, who won the Prep League championship, picked up a 5-0 victory against Placentia Valencia.

The winner will go up against third-seeded Lakewood St. Joseph or Walnut in a quarterfinal match Thursday.

Diamond Bar at Flintridge Prep, 3 p.m.: Flintridge Prep (13-2-6) started its CIF Southern Section Division III playoff journey Thursday with a 2-0 home win against Burroughs. The Rebels’ defense has shined, registering 17 shutouts.

Diamond Bar (18-3-3) won the Hacienda League championship before starting its postseason run with a 3-0 win against Western.

The winner will meet fourth-seeded Bishop Amat or Righetti in a quarterfinal match Thursday.
