SPORTS ROUNDUP: Glendale college baseball team rolls to win

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 25, West LA College 3: Chris Whitmer was the main attraction for the Vaqueros’ explosive offensive Tuesday, as his grand slam highlighted his two-for-three, five-runs-batted-in game.

Gary Acuna picked up the win in a lopsided victory for the Vaqueros, as he tossed six innings of one-hit, one-run, four-strikeout ball. GCC relievers Kyle Schneider and Jaime Rosales helped close the door, pitching scoreless seventh and eighth innings in the victory.

Justin Jones doubled and scored four runs and Edgar Montes logged three hits and three runs, while Mike McCallister went three for three and Max Fecske was three for six.

BASEBALL

Glendale 3, Muir 0: Daniel Choi pitched a shutout for the Nitros in a Pacific League game Tuesday at Glendale High. Offensively, Glendale center fielder Sean Harris tripled, scored a run and drove in another in the win. The Nitros picked up their first league win, improving to 2-10, 1-4 in league.

Arcadia 2, Hoover 0: The visiting Tornadoes fell in a Pacific League game Tuesday. Hoover dropped to 1-11, 0-4 in league.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 7, St. Francis 6 (8 innings): Tommy Scheper hit a home run for the visiting Golden Knights on Tuesday in a Mission League game. St. Francis dropped to 0-5 in league.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Glendale 16, La Cañada 8: Claire Bernardo finished with four goals Tuesday to lead the host Nitros to a Prep League victory at Moyse Field. Glendale received three goals apiece from Ahuixchel Lopez Engelman and Lymayre Aguilar and two each from Ariela Ruiz, Elibeth Torres and Rosey Pedroza.

SOFTBALL

Arcadia 10, Hoover 0: Kelly Crockett and Jessica Rivera each had two-hit games at home Tuesday for the Tornadoes, who fell to 3-6, 0-4 in the Pacific League.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Glendale 16, Pasadena 2: All three doubles teams swept in a Pacific League victory at Pasadena High Tuesday. Glendale’s No. 1 singles player Arin Meserkhani also picked up a 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 win. The Nitros (4-7, 2-6 in league) No. 2 team of Mher Krikor and Matt Davidian swept most convincingly, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1.

La Cañada 11, Crescenta Valley 7: The Falcons got two victories from their No. 1 doubles team of Patrick Meserkhani and Greg Manouchehri, 7-6, 6-3, in a nonleague loss at La Cañada Tuesday.

Chaminade 15, St. Francis 3: The visiting Golden Knights suffered a Mission League road loss Tuesday at Cal State Northridge. St. Francis fell to 6-6, 2-3 in league.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Alemany 4, St. Francis 1: The Golden Knights started strong before falling at home in a Mission League match Tuesday, 20-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16. Charles McCarthy and Christopher Thompson were St. Francis’ kill leaders in the loss.

BOYS’ GOLF

Buckley 212, Flintridge Prep 228: Jack Bouchard of Flintridge Prep earned medalist honors Tuesday with an even-par 36 in a Prep League match at Altadena Golf Course. The Rebels dropped to 3-4, 0-3 in league.
