SPORTS ROUNDUP: Hoover softball, baseball collect league wins

SOFTBALL

Hoover 15, Muir 0 (five innings): The Tornadoes collected 12 runs in the first inning en route to a Pacific League home win on Friday via the mercy rule.

Diana Palafox had two hits, three runs batted in and a run scored for the Tornadoes (8-11, 3-9 in league), while Alissa Barcena had four RBI and three runs, Karina Moreno had three RBI and two runs, Jessica Rivera had two runs and two RBI and Kaitlyn Williams had an RBI and two runs, with Jenesy Gonzalez and Anjel Bonilla also scoring twice.

Moreno got the shutout in the circle, allowing four hits and six walks, while striking out eight.

Burroughs 9, Glendale 2: Alia Zavala had three hits in the losing effort for the Nitros in Friday’s Pacific League game. Glendale fell to 6-12, 4-8 in league.

BASEBALL

Hoover 4, Muir 3: Starting pitcher Orlando Marin went the distance, allowing two hits, en route to leading the visiting Tornadoes to a Pacific League win Friday.

Marin finished with five strikeouts to help Hoover improve to 5-16, 3-9 in league.

Chaminade 1, St. Francis 0: The Golden Knights lost a Mission League heartbreaker on the road Friday. St. Francis dropped to 6-17 and 1-9 in the Mission League.

Burroughs 12, Glendale 0 (five innings): The host Nitros were limited to one hit in a Pacific League game called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule Friday. Tyler Lousararian had the lone hit for Glendale (3-17, 2-10 in league).
