Crescenta Valley High graduate John Huh battles delays on Open’s first day

More than four hours of weather delays made it difficult for almost anyone to find a rhythm during the first round of the 113th rendition of the U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club’s East Course on Thursday.

While not his best round, Crescenta Valley High graduate John Huh managed to keep himself in the hunt with a one-over-par 71 to put him in a 16-way tie for 35th place after play was suspended in Ardmore, Pa. Huh shares the spot on the leader board with players such as Bubba Watson, Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson and Ian Poulter. Six of those 16 golfers haven’t finished the first round, as play was called at 5:16 p.m. PDT and will resume at 7:15 a.m. PDT Friday.

Huh is scheduled to begin his second round at 10:51 a.m. PDT with Charley Hoffman and Jerry Kelly.
Huh ended on the par-four 18th hole with a bogey. It snapped what had been a solid play down the stretch for Huh, who shot one over on the fourth and fifth holes.

Huh parred the next nine holes and rebounded with birdies at the par-four 14- and 15th holes to pull even. He shot even at 16 and 17 before stumbling at 18.
