Crescenta Valley Major softball off to Section 2 title game

Share

Buoyed by a five-run first inning, the Crescenta Valley Major All-Stars softball team defeated Quartz Hill on Sunday night at Quartz Hill Little League, 8-6.

With the win, CV earned a championship rematch against Granada Hills Monday at 8 p.m. Crescenta Valley must win on Monday and then win an if-necessary title game on Tuesday.

Melissa Iyoya drove in four runs on Sunday, including a two-run single in the first inning.

CV quelled a rally by Quartz Hill, which cut the score to 5-4 at one point. Quartz Hill got a big triple in the top of the sixth, but a relay keyed by Tyler Herman and Tyler Hoogenheizen, who threw a complete game in the circle, got the runner going for home.

“That was a huge, huge play,” Crescenta Valley Coach Dave Fox said. “Basically, our defense came through with some big plays.”
