Crescenta Valley High football led to big win by Brian Gadsby’s six touchdown passes

TUJUNGA — Things are certainly coming along fast early in Brian Gadsby’s football-playing
days.

The Crescenta Valley High quarterback was called up for the last two games of last season, leading the Falcons to a pair of victories.

Gadsby kicked off the new season with an impressive outing Friday night, as he tossed a career-high six touchdowns passes to power visiting Crescenta Valley to a 54-20 intersectional victory against Verdugo Hills.

“The learning process has been good and you try to just go out there and pick up different things,” said Gadsby, who completed 13 of 23 passes for 174 yards. “The last two games last year I was I was a little nervous and scared because you don’t know what to expect.

“I wasn’t nervous tonight and I got some great protection from my offensive line. It’s great to go out there and have a game like that, but I know I’m still learning each day.”

Gadsby, a junior, tossed a pair of touchdown passes to wide receivers Ben Rees and Bostin Lakin and one each to Chase Walker and Connor Van Ginkel to help the Falcons extended their winning streak to five against the Dons.

Cresscenta Valley appeared to take the lead on the opening kickoff. Jordan Lobianco took the kickoff back 65 yards, but the effort was nullified by a clipping penalty. The call didn’t hamper the Falcons, who scored on the opening drive when Gadsby connected with Lakin with 10:26 left to make it 7-0.

Verdugo Hills took an 8-7 lead on the ensuing possession when quarterback Mark Powell tossed a 45-yard touchdown pass to Lucas McLeland with 8:17 to go in the first quarter.

Crescenta Valley running back Joanathan Jun scored on a two-yard run to give the Falcons a 13-8 lead with 43.5 to play in the first quarter. Gadsby, making his third varsity appearance, threw a pair of touchdown passes in the second quarter. :

He threw a six-yard pass to Walker to make it 19-8 with 9:33 to play in the first half. With 3:13 to play in the opening half, Gadsby threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Van Ginkel to extend the advantage to 26-8 at halftime.

Gadsby tossed three third-quarter touchdown passes in the third quarter. He threw a 10-yard pass to Vak Ginkel to make it 33-8, followed by a 32-yard pass to Rees to make it 40-8 and a 10-yard pass to Lakin to extend the lead to
47-8.

Crescenta Valley will next meet visiting San Marino at 7 p.m. Thursday at Glendale Hih’s Moyse
Field.
