Glendale Community College sophomore linebacker Noche Nwofer was named on Tuesday the Pacific Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts Saturday.

Nwofer collected three tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown in Glendale’s 41-6 nonconference home victory against San Diego Mesa on Saturday, which improved the Vaqueros record to 2-1 and marked the team’s second home victory in as many tries.

“It means a lot to win this award, but it’s even better that we won,” said Nwofer, who has totaled 15 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions this season. “This is a game I’ve been playing since the school yard, so it’s about making quick reactions.”

In addition, Nwofer finished with two sacks, one pass break up and assisted on a tackle for a loss.

“It feels good to be 2-1 and we’re getting ready for another big week,” Nwofer said.

Glendale hosts Antelope Valley (0-2) on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the American Division Pacific Conference opener for both teams.
