Sports Roundup: Glendale High boys’ water polo hitting stride

Crescenta Valley, Glendale at Villa Park Tournament: The Falcons opened up the tournament’s first day of pool play Thursday with an 11-5 defeat versus El Toro at Yorba Linda High.

Nate Fernandez led the attack for the Falcons, who were shut out in the first quarter and trailed 8-2 at the half. Trevor Goddard, Omar Trad and Alexander all added a goal for Crescenta Valley (5-4). Goalkeeper George Vine IV finished with seven saves.

Up next for the Falcons is a game back at Yorba Linda on Friday at 3:30 p.m. versus Buena Park.

Glendale delivered the area’s lone win as the Nitros topped Troy, 16-10, at El Dorado High.

Glendale scored four goals in the first quarter and six more in the second in taking a 10-3 lead into the half and never looking back.

Flintridge Prep was scheduled to take part in the tournament, but pulled out of the event.

Glendale 25, Pasadena 17: The Nitros went on the road and captured a Pacific League victory Wednesday.

Senior driver Arman Momdzhyan led the way for Glendale in scoring a team-high 13 goals, while teammate Manuk Piloyan added seven scores..

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 3, Alemany 0: Host Flintridge Sacred Heart earned a 25-11, 25-11, 25-15 win in a Mission League opener Thursday. Emily Develle finished with 18 digs for the Tologs, who improved to 8-2.

Alverno 3, Holy Family 0: The Gaels dropped a Horizon League match, 25-13, 25-22, 25-13, on the road at Foothill Church in Pasadena. Holy Family dipped to 5-10, 0-3 in league.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Alemany 11, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 7: The Tologs couldn’t pull of the close wins in Thursday’s Mission League match at the Fremont Tennis Center.

Arcadia 15, Crescenta Valley 3: The visiting Falcons fell Thursday in a Pacific League match. Jackie Dilanchyan and Alexa Gregorian won two sets (6-2, 6-4) for Crescenta Valley (5-4, 4-3 in league).

Westridge 17, Flintridge Prep 1: The Rebels suffered a Prep League road defeat Thursday at Muir High. Flintridge Prep (1-7, 1-2 in league) received a 6-4 doubles victory from Cady Deck and Lori Pridjian.
