A day ahead of their respective blockbuster bouts Saturday on HBO in Corpus Christi, Texas, both Vanes “Nightmare” Martirosyan and Vic “The Raging Bull” Darchinyan made weight, but it didn’t go without incident, at least not in the case of Martirosyan and opponent Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade.

During the obligatory stare down after Glendale’s Martirosyan and Andrade hit weight, the two exchanged in a heated confrontation.

After Martirosyan, who trains at the Wild Card Boxing Club and Main Event Gym in Glendale, weighed in and went to face off with Andrade, Andrade stepped in and pressed his nose to Martirosyan’s. The two jockeyed back and forth, exchanged words, then Andrade patted Martirosyan’s chest, Martirosyan returned the favor and Andrade emphatically shoved Martirosyan back with both hands. Martirosyan responded immediately with a left-handed shove as he’d already been partially held back.

Before the altercation, Martirosyan (33-0-1, 21 knockouts) and Andrade (19-0, 13 KOs) both weighed in at 153.75 pounds for their 12-round WBO junior middleweight (154 pounds) title fight. Both former United States Olympians, it will be the first world title fight for both.

Darchinyan (39-5-1), who now trains at the Glendale Fighting Club, will go toe-to-toe with Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire (31-2, 20 KOs). For their 10-round bantamweight bout (126 pounds), Darchinyan weighed in at 125.75 pounds, with Donaire coming in at 125.25. Darchinyan is looking to avenge a 2007 loss to Donaire.

Martirosyan and Andrade will kick off the “HBO Boxing” triple header, which begins at 9:30 p.m. EST, with Darchinyan-Donaire following ahead of the main event between Mikey Garcia and Roman Martinez.
