Sports Roundup: Big night for Pyros leads Glendale Community College women’s basketball to win

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale Community College 64, Barstow College 58: Samantha Pyros collected 30 points, six rebounds and four steals Friday to lift the Vaqueros (5-3) in an opening-round contest in the Chaffey College Tournament. Glendale received 12 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and three steals from Gabby Beltran and 13 points, five assists and three steals from Elsie Mejia.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

San Bernardino Valley College 80, Glendale Community College 70 (OT): The Vaqueros (4-1) fell Friday in an opening-round game in the Antelope Valley College Tournament. Glendale received 15 points and nine assists from Jalen Etienne.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Crescenta Valley 17, Righetti 1: The reigning CIF Southern Section Division V champion opened up its season with a pair of resounding wins at the Mistletoe Classic on Friday, defeating Nordhoff and Righetti by 17-1 scores.

Against Nordhoff, Audrey Taylor had two goals, three assists and six steals, while Ani Aghakhanian, Ashley Taylor and Elissa Arnold had three goals each, with Arnold nabbing five steals for the Falcons (2-0).

Against Righetti, Audrey Taylor tallied two goals, four assists and six steals, while Ashley Taylor and Arnold had five goals and three steals each. Natalie Krebsbach notched two goals and five steals.

WRESTLING

Hoover 45, Franklin 15: The Tornadoes got pins from Jesse Martinez (152 pounds), Joshua Lee (220) and Erik Jones (heavyweight) to win their season-opening match at home on Friday.

Davit Nersiyan (170) and Narek Zamanyan (138) posted decision victories.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

St. Francis 67, San Bernardino 53: Kyle Leufroy finished with 28 points and Noah Willerford added 24 on Friday to lead St. Francis to a victory in the Rose City Classic Tournament at Maranatha High.

St. Francis (2-1) will meet St. Anthony’s at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the tournament’s fifth-place contest.

Crespi 65, Crescenta Valley 63: The Falcons came up just short in the San Fernando Valley Invitational on Friday night.

Kyle Currie had 17 points, Berj Krikorian had 15 points and Eric Bae added 12 points and five rebounds.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Prep 56, San Marino 18: Tala Ismail collected 13 points and Lacy Coan added 11 on Friday to propel the visiting Rebels (2-0) in a nonleague contest.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Prep 4, Kilpatrick 0: The host Rebels received two goals apiece from Cole Rademacher and Ari Baranian on Friday to pick up a nonleague win. Flintridge Prep (3-1) got seven saves from goalkeeper Hamilton Evans.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Golden Valley 3, Hoover 1: Remi Miller scored the lone goal for the host Tornadoes in their season opener Friday. Talin Kojababian had an assist for Hoover.

Oakwood 3, Holy Family 0: Goalkeeper Emely Palancia finished with 24 saves for the Gaels in a season-opening match Friday at the Glendale Sports Complex.
