Sports Roundup: Cartwright’s 32 leads Flintridge Prep basketball past Cleveland

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Prep 88, Cleveland 75: Robert Cartwright had 32 points to lead the Rebels at the Crescenta Valley Tournament on Tuesday evening.

Kyle Hamane added 15 points as Flintridge Prep improved to 2-0.

The Rebels began their season Monday with a 68-29 win over Los Angeles Jefferson in a pool-play victory in the Falcon Classic at Crescenta Valley High. Flintridge Prep received 19 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals from Cartwright and seven rebounds from Jake Althouse.

Flintridge Prep held a 44-12 halftime advantage.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 61, San Marino 32: Jenna Tran turned in a banner effort in leading the Tologs to a win in opening pool play action of the Pasadena Poly on Tuesday evening.

Tran had 22 points and six rebounds.

Kelly Fradet added 15 points and eight rebounds for Flintridge Sacred Heart (3-2), which next plays Holy Martyrs on Thursday at Poly at 6 p.m.

St. Genevieve 59, Holy Family 28: Senior guard Alex Mata scored seven points, but the Gaels fell in Providence Tournament action Tuesday evening.

Holy Family is now 0-3.

Flintridge Prep 57, Village Christian 22: Renae Taemura and Natalie Rozman each scored 13 points Monday to lead the Rebels in a pool-play win in the 17th annual Pioneer Shootout at Providence Tournament.

Agoura 47, Crescenta Valley 43: Crescenta Valley (4-1) suffered its first loss of the season Monday in a pool-play contest of the Burroughs Tournament. The Falcons received a team-high 18 points from Alisa Shinn and eight points from Josie Brock.

Fairfax 52, Glendale 28: The Nitros fell Monday in a pool-play game of the Burroughs Tournament.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Hoover 5, Oaks Christian 3 (OT): Maggie Amirian and Naeiri each scored a goal in overtime to propel the host Tornadoes (1-1) in a nonleague match Tuesday. Amirian finished with four goals.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Bellflower 3, Crescenta Valley 2: Matt Ryan and Justin Wright scored on Tuesday in the Falcons’ first loss of the season.

Crescenta Valley, which was playing in the Westside Tournament, dropped to 3-1-1.

South Pasadena 6, Flintridge Prep 2: Ari Baranian and Bryce Delgado each scored one goal Tuesday for the Rebels (3-2) in a nonleague road match.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

West Ranch 2, Crescenta Valley 1: Hannah Wiengarten scored the Falcons’ only goal in the 64th minute to cut her team’s lead in half on Tuesday afternoon.

The nonleague road loss dropped Crescenta Valley to 0-3 with all three losses by one goal.
