Sports Roundup: Tala Ismail propels Flintridge Prep girls’ basketball to lopsided league win
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Flintridge Prep 72, Mayfield 31: Tala Ismail turned in a huge night with 25 points to lead the Rebels to a Prep League win on Saturday.
Prep improved to 12-4 and 5-2 in league, as Maya Okamoto contributed 12 points to the cause.
Holy Family 35, Pilibos 31: Tabitha Ruiz finished with 14 points and Melissa Chan added 10 on Saturday to lead the visiting Gaels (5-16) to a nonleague victory.
Charisse Talaro added nine points for Holy Family.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Glendale Community College 74, West Los Angeles 63: The host Vaqueros received 16 points from Jalen Etienne to pick up a Western State Conference South Division victory Saturday. Glendale Coach Brian Beauchemin earned his 587th career victory, good for fifth all-time in state history.
The Vaqueros improved to 17-4, 5-2 in the division.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Glendale Community College 83, West Los Angeles 45: The host Vaqueros outscored West Los Angeles, 45-18, in the second half en route to a Western State Conference South Division victory on Saturday afternoon.
Samantha Pyros hit 12 of 19 shots in scoring a game-high 27 points and hauling in 11 rebounds for Glendale (13-10, 4-3), while Gabriela Beltran scored 20 points and Brenda Balbuena added 12 points and five steals.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Rio Hondo College 6, Glendale Community College 3: The Vaqueros got three hits from outfielder Jay Sheeley in Saturday’s nonconference game.
GCC dropped to 1-3.
