Sports Roundup: Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy rolls to league victory

SWIMMING

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 120, Louisville 49: Kirsten Vose, Christina Campbell and Kate Herrill each won two events Tuesday for the visiting Tologs in a Mission League meet at L.A. Pierce College.

Vose captured the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute 5.55 seconds and the 100 butterfly (58.62). Campbell won the 200 freestyle (2:03.03) and the 500 freestyle (5:21.69). Herrill finished first in the 100 freestyle (53.60) and 200 individual medley (2:12.98).

BOYS’ TENNIS

Loyola 14, St. Francis 4: The Golden Knights suffered a Mission League road defeat Tuesday at Sycamore Courts. St. Francis (8-2, 2-2 in league) got a pair of singles wins from Kristian Esteve (7-5, 6-2).

BASEBALL

Alemany 9, St. Francis 0: The Golden Knights dropped a Mission League road game Tuesday. St. Francis fell to 3-4, 0-3 in league.

On Saturday, St. Francis picked up a 6-2 win against Walnut in the first round of the Chino Tournament. Kevin Baker tossed a complete game for the win, while Mike Reilly had two hits and two runs scored. John Bicos had a pair of hits and a run batted in and Jason Ajamian had three runs batted in.

Hoover 13, Cesar Chavez 6: The Tornadoes won an L.A. Poly Tournament road game Saturday.

J.P. Gallegos had three hits, including a grand slam,. and finished with five runs batted in to spark Hoover (7-2).

Crescenta Valley 5, 15, Chula Vista Mater Dei 2, 4: The Falcons swept their annual doubleheader at Chula Vista Mater Dei on Saturday.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Bryan Wang pitched four innings to earn the victory in a 5-2 Falcons win. Brian Gadsby pitched three scoreless innings for the save and Joe Torres and Wang had two hits apiece.

Jimmy Smiley had a three-run home run in the second game.

BOYS’ GOLF

Loyola 188, St. Francis 195: St. Francis fell Monday in a Mission League match at Wilshire Country Club. The Golden Knights got a two-over-par 37 from Michael Finney and Michael Mozilo and a 39 from Johnny Brandt to drop to 3-1, 2-1 in league.

TRACK AND FIELD

Crescenta Valley in Azusa Pacific Meet of Champions: Megan Melnyk provided the biggest highlight for the Falcons on Saturday, taking third in her heat of the girls’ 800-meter race in 2 minutes 15.30 seconds.

Jason Crosthwaite took fifth in 4:54.66, more than 10 seconds faster than his seeded time, in the boys’ varsity 1,600.

Nick Beatty was seventh in the 800 in 1:57.45.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

College of the Canyons 10, 8, Glendale Community College 6,4: The visiting Vaqueros were swept in a Western State Conference Blue Division doubleheader Tuesday. Glendale dropped to 9-13, 3-6 in the division.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 11, College of the Canyons 8: The Vaqueros garnered a crucial Western State Conference South Division win on Saturday afternoon on the road.

GCC (11-10-1, 5-4 in conference) remains in third place in the division with the win over COC (10-10, 7-2) and got back on the winning track after a two-game skid.

Glendale capitalized on five COC errors and never trailed, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first and putting up three and four runs in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively.

On the hill, Ben McKendall improved to 3-0 with a quality start, going six innings, allowing two runs, six hits and striking out three to no walks.

Jay Sheeley had two hits, two runs, a walk and a stolen base, Brent Sakurai had three hits, a run and a RBI, Cam Silva had two hits, two runs and a RBI and Nick Padilla had a pair of hits, a run and a RBI. Raul Camas also scored twice and drove in a run with a hit and a walk.
