Sports Roundup: Flintridge Prep baseball defeats Rio Hondo Prep again

BASEBALL

Flintridge Prep 8, Rio Hondo Prep 5: Cole Pilar had a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Rebels to a Prep League win at the Glendale Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Pilar’s hit gave the Rebels a 7-5 lead before Michael Weinstein followed with a run-scoring single. The Rebels improved to 8-5-1, 4-2 in league with the second win in as many days against Rio Hondo Prep.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burroughs 3, Hoover 0: The Tornadoes fell in a Pacific League road match on Wednesday afternoon, 25-12, 25-9, 25-10.

With the loss, Hoover fell to 1-15-1 overall and 0-8 in league.

Alemany 3, St. Francis 1: Host Alemany recorded a 25-21, 24-26, 25-23, 27-25 Mission League win Tuesday. David Thompson finished with 39 assists and Thomas Lund added 12 kills for the Golden Knights (3-5 in league).

BOYS’ TRACK

Hoover vs. Burroughs, Arcadia: The Tornadoes placed third Wednesday in a Pacific League double-dual meet at Arcadia High (official scores weren’t tabulated at press time).

Hoover (2-4 in league) had one top-three finish when Andrew Alvarado placed second in the 300-meter hurdles in 41.24 seconds.

“We have a small team, so it was about getting PRs and doing the best that than can in every event,” Hoover Coach Jack Sallakian said. “Because we are small, a lot of athletes have to compete in a few events.”

GIRLS’ TRACK

Hoover vs. Burroughs, Arcadia: Lucik Minassian had a pair of third-place finishes Wednesday as the Tornadoes placed third in the Pacific League double-dual meet at Arcadia High.

Minassian was third in the 3,200 meters in 5 minutes, 48.20 seconds and third in the 1,600 in 5:48.06 for Hoover (1-5 in league).

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Glendale 99, Pasadena 71: Garrett Fritz led the Nitros to a Pacific League road victory Wednesday afternoon.

Fritz won the 200-yard freestyle (no times were available) and 500-yard freestyle and joined the team of Bijan Rezvani, Jayson Wilia and Arthur Khachikyan for a victory in the 200 and 400 medley relays.

Rezvani also won the 50 and 100 freestyle, while Wilia took the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly and Khachikyan captured the 100 backstroke.

Glendale improved to 2-1.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Pasadena 101, Glendale 80: The Nitros fell to 0-3 this season after a Pacific League road defeat on Wednesday afternoon.

Claire Dugger picked up a win for Glendale in the 500 freestyle (no times were available), while the 4x100 freestyle team of Dugger, Naira Sarkian, Stephanie Carrillo and Vehik Golabi earned a win.
