• Police are searching for a man who was caught on tape pocketing a Samsung Galaxy 6 cellphone worth $750 at the Glendale Galleria AT&T store, police said.

• For the first time since the 2010-11 ski season, Mt. Waterman Ski Lifts will open later this month following a series of El Niño storms this week, with more forecast this weekend.

• The city of Glendale has upgraded the mobile version of its website, which now features a series of quick links to some of its most-frequently visited pages.

• A 49-year-old doctor who pre-signed thousands of blank prescription slips for a sham medical clinic in Glendale that defrauded Medicare and Medi-Cal of $9 million was sentenced Wednesday to nine years in federal prison for his role in the scam, officials said.

• A 44-year-old Glendale man was convicted this week of stealing trade secrets from his former employer, a Pasadena aircraft avionics company, and distributing them to three competitors in a revenge plot after he was fired, officials said.
