First Glendale New Year’s baby born

The first New Year’s baby in Glendale was born at Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital at 12:12 a.m. on Friday.

Vanessa Cruz and Antonio Cervantes welcomed their son, Gael, into the world, weighing 9 pounds, 2 ounces and 20 inches long. Gael has a brother, Angel, who is 3 years old.

While the family was in church on New Year’s Eve, Cruz started having contractions, so they went to the hospital, where she was in labor for about three hours before Gael was delivered by Dr. Ryan Lee.

“We were surprised, but very glad that both Gael and Vanessa are healthy, and we’re happy that he was born on New Year’s Day,” said Cervantes in a statement from the hospital.
