Letter: SGV Habitat Restore supports mission
- Share via
We should celebrate. San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity is completing its eighth build in Glendale on Chestnut Street and is commencing its ninth build on Lomita Avenue later this year. Habitat works with our community volunteers and donors to provide affordable home ownership to needy families that would never be able to buy a home otherwise. Did you know that California has 13 of the 15 most expensive metro areas for home ownership in the United States? Habitat is part of the solution.
Home ownership changes a family’s future, building equity in our community and improving individual health, education and job performance. Families become long-term members of our community as a result of their “sweat equity” constructing the homes and by paying their mortgages and property taxes.
You can join this effort by volunteering or making a donation. Go to www.sgvhabitat.org. You can also shop for bargains for your home-improvement projects in the SGV Habitat Restore, at 5201 W. San Fernando Road, at Broadway and Brazil Street, south of the 134 Freeway. Profits support the Habitat Mission. The Restore is a convenient place to donate building materials, household cabinets and fixtures, and gently used furniture and appliances. Recently a friend told me how thrilled she was to find a manikin to purchase at the Restore at a bargain price. There are new treasures coming in all the time.
Remember the Restore when you are downsizing. Call and schedule a pickup at (818) 550-7467.
