The deadline for proposals to renovate the historic former Rockhaven Sanitarium into a new use has been extended to Aug. 11, city officials said.

Developers originally had until the end of July to submit proposals. The City Council initially requested plans to either convert Rockhaven into a boutique shopping center or revert it back into a mental healthy facility. However, council members voted last month to accept a broader range of uses.

“We want to ensure that potential proponents responding to last month’s change in a proposal criteria had a fair and adequate amount of time to respond,” said City Manager Scott Ochoa.

After city staffers review the submissions, the City Council will eventually vote for a winning project.
