Man in custody after leading Glendale police on freeway chase that ended in crash, foot pursuit

A man is in custody after leading Glendale police on a freeway chase that ended in a collision Friday evening.

The chase began at around 8:20 p.m. when police attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation near the Ventura (134) Freeway and Glendale Avenue. The car failed to stop and fled onto the eastbound side of the freeway, according to Glendale police spokesman Sgt. Robert William.

The chase came to an end when the car struck a vehicle near Figueroa Street, William said.

Three injuries were reported at the scene — a female passenger in the car that fled and a man and woman in the vehicle that was hit. All three were transported to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries, William said.

While the vehicle chase ended, a foot pursuit ensued with the driver.

“The driver of the suspect vehicle fled across the westbound lane and into an embankment,” William said.

Police had the man in custody by 9:30 p.m. after he was found hiding in some bushes near the embankment.

William said the car the man was driving had been reported stolen and a weapon was recovered from the vehicle.
