Glendale PTA: Ceremonies mark the end of the school year

The last day of school in the Glendale Unified School District, including graduation and promotion ceremonies, is June 3.

Wilson Middle School eighth-graders will attend promotion activities at 9:30 a.m. on the school’s athletic field, while promotion for Roosevelt Middle School students will be at 8:30 a.m. in the Ron Grace Sports Complex.

Daily High School, the Young Parent Education program and Verdugo Academy completions will be recognized at 1:30 p.m. in the Glendale Forest Lawn Auditorium.

Glendale High School students will toss their caps at the completion of their graduation ceremony starting at 6 p.m. on Moyse Field.

Classes will resume on Aug. 11.

Free lunches for all children under the age of 18 will again be provided this summer by the Glendale Unified School District’s nutrition services department Monday through Friday starting June 9. No lunches will be served on July 4.

Lunches will be served through Aug. 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at Pacific Park., 501 S. Pacific Ave. The lunch schedule at Roosevelt Middle School will be from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. weekdays, and Toll and Wilson middle schools will be from 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. weekdays through July 11.

Free lunches at Glendale and Hoover high schools will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. weekdays through July 11.

Food must be eaten on the premises.

Glendale High School

The PTA-hosted baccalaureate for seniors will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Graduation will be on Tuesday on Moyse Field. Graduating seniors should gather in the John Wayne Performing Arts Center at 5 p.m. and they will take to the field by 6 p.m.

Grad Night at Disneyland will be next Wednesday. Students must ride buses to and from Disneyland. Permission slips for this trip must be returned to the school before graduation.

Yearbooks are being distributed in room 6110. Students need a receipt to pick one up. Books may be purchased from the student store for $90.

Wilson Middle School

Rachel Imperio, outgoing PTSA president, said she appreciates the PTA members and the 2013-2014 PTA board for all of their support, and she welcomes incoming PTA President Marc Perlman and his new board.

Information about eighth-grade promotion and activities has been mailed to all eighth-graders. Information can also be downloaded at https://www.wilsonknights.org.

The Wilson PTA is in need of a new editor of the Wilson Knights newsletter for the 2014/2015 school year, which involves collecting monthly articles from Wilson staff and the PTA and then compiling them into a newsletter format.

Marshall Elementary

Marshall’s last PTA meeting of the school year will be at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in room 6001. The May Spirit Award assemblies will be held on Friday.

Parents of students being honored for exemplifying the qualities of courtesy are invited to attend at the following times — 9 a.m. for kindergarten and first grade; 9:30 a.m. for second and third grades; and 10:10 a.m. for fourth and fifth grades.

Festive Friday, sponsored by the Student Council, encourages students to enjoy vacation-themed music during lunch and recess followed by Jamba Juice sales after school. Students can choose from three different flavors for $4 each. A percentage of the sales will support Marshall.

The last day of school will be on Tuesday with a minimum-day schedule. Students in transitional kindergarten and kindergarten will dismiss at noon. First, second and third grades will dismiss at 12:10 p.m.; fourth and fifth grades will dismiss at 12:20 p.m. Fifth-grade promotion will begin at 11:15 a.m. in the school’s auditorium.
