Larry L. Caviness dies at 74

Larry L. Caviness, former Glendale resident and immediate past president of the Southern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in Glendale, died on March 2 at his retirement home in Springboro, Ohio, where he and his wife, Linda, moved this past summer.
He passed away at the age of 74 following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Chico Seventh-day Adventist Church in Chico, Calif., where other family members are buried. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Vallejo Drive Adventist church, 300 Vallejo Drive, Glendale, where he had been a member.
In Glendale, Caviness also presided over the 150 Adventist churches and groups in Los Angeles and Ventura counties as well as parts of Santa Barbara and Kern counties for 20 years
During his tenure in Glendale, he served on the boards of three area Adventist hospitals: Glendale Adventist and White Memorial Medical centers as well as Simi Valley Hospital.
Prior to his time in the Los Angeles area, he held leadership roles in the Nevada-Utah and Northern California conferences.
Earlier, he served as youth ministry director in the Northern California, Carolina and Upper New York conferences.
Besides his wife, Larry Caviness is survived by his son, Dr. Talmadge Caviness of Loma Linda, daughter, Andrea Caviness Manchur, of Springboro, Ohio; and five grandchildren. Another son, Aaron Tad Caviness, passed away in 1993.
