The Glendale Healthier Community Coalition, in conjunction with the Character & Ethics Project, honored recipients of 2015 Tom Miller awards during a recent meeting of the coalition held at Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital.
Selected in the youth category were Mary Kalfayan, from Hoover High School, and Wade King, from Glendale High School. Both students have exemplified commitment to the overall betterment of the Glendale community through their ongoing, personal volunteer efforts, according to coalition officials.
The award in the individual category was presented to Ben Yu, senior pharmacist at Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital. Yu has volunteered nearly every Tuesday evening for the past several years at the Glendale Community Free Health Clinic, dispensing medications and answering questions about them.
Soroptimist International of Glendale was honored in the organization category for its work in a number of areas, most notably through its breast cancer fundraiser called “Bras for a Cause.”
