Glendale PD to crack down on distracted driving

Motorists who text or talk on a cellphone while driving may be stopped by police Thursday during a citywide operation aimed at distracted drivers.

The operation is just one of four scheduled enforcement efforts planned in Glendale as part of a month-long, statewide distracted-driving awareness campaign.

Police plan to cite cellphone violators Thursday as well as during operations on April 8, 17 and 22.

The operations, police said, are created to inform motorists about the dangers of distracted driving and reduce any traffic-related deaths due to inattentiveness.

The minimum fee for violating the cellphone law is $161, but ticket costs increase with subsequent violations.
