Glendale is home to lottery winner
A California lottery winner in Glendale landed a trifecta Friday in a horse-racing-themed game and earned nearly $830,000, which is the first victory on that game in six months.
The winning Daily Derby ticket, which hasn’t been claimed, was purchased at the 7-Eleven store at 500 W. Colorado St. in Glendale, lottery spokeswoman Cathy Johnston said. The winner will take home $829,834, just in time for the holiday season.
The winner matched all three winning horses — Eureka for first place, Money Bags for second and Big Ben for third — as well as the final race time of 1:45.03.
The last time someone won playing Daily Derby was six months ago. Since that time, 90,000 people have played the game and $180,000 has been paid out, she said.
Players must select a race time and three horses out of 12 to finish consecutively in the top three in Daily Derby. Picks for the game are made before the 6:30 p.m. daily draw.
Store employee Elida Linares was surprised by the amount of the winning ticket.
She added the win was “very good for the store,” which will get a bonus for selling the top-prize lottery ticket.
Nearly a year ago, Tigran Zargaryan won $1 million after buying a $10-million Fortune Lotto ticket at Christie’s Liquor in La Crescenta.
The Daily Derby winner has 180 days from Friday to claim the prize at any local lottery office.
