Parolee pleads not guilty to break-ins

breaking into five northwest Glendale homes while residents were sleeping, even though police said he admitted to the attempted burglaries.

Calese Crowder, who’s on parole for robbery, faces two felony counts of attempted burglary and three felony counts of burglary, according to a Los Angeles County Superior Court complaint.

But police said he was cooperating this week after officers chased him throughout the 1100 blocks of Irving and Allen avenues following two Tuesday morning break-ins, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

Crowder admitted to police that he broke in with the intent to steal, Lorenz added.

“He’s got a habit of stealing things,” Lorenz said.

Crowder was convicted of robbery at Western Avenue and Glenoaks Boulevard in 2006, burglary in 2008 and possessing methamphetamine in 2009, according to court records.

Residents had since Saturday been reporting waking up to find a man inside their home. The man either fled when he saw the residents or was chased out of the homes.

He was living in the same neighborhood that he allegedly burglarized, police said.

Police caught up to Crowder on Tuesday after he allegedly entered two homes in the 1100 block of Irving Avenue.

Police dogs found him hiding in a subterranean garage on Allen Avenue.

Detectives urged residents this week to notify them of any unreported crimes, but no new break-ins have since been reported.

Crowder is expected to appear June 27 in the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Burbank for a hearing.
