‘Property Brothers’ take on the stage in Orange County

They’ve transformed old properties into luxury homes while maximizing a homebuyer’s limited budget in a hot real estate market.

Now, Jonathan and Drew Scott — who are best known for their HGTV programs, “Property Brothers,” “Brother vs. Brother” and “Buying & Selling” — will take the Segerstrom Center for the Arts stage July 23 for a variety-show style meet-up featuring behind-the-scenes tales that didn’t make it on television.

The 39-year-old identical twins will host The Scott Brothers House Party with plans to share childhood stories, reveal tricks of the trade and bring fans onstage to compete for prizes in home improvement and design challenges.

Drew, a real estate expert, and Jonathan, a licensed contractor who renovates houses, will share their style to redesign fans’ “problem rooms” while competing with each other in pranks and humorous tests.

“We wanted to have a party,” Drew said by phone, “and we thought it’d be fun to share that on stage.”

The television personalities and authors, who last year released their first book “Dream Home: The Property Brothers’ Ultimate Guide to Finding & Fixing Your Perfect House,” have garnered millions of viewers in more than 150 countries.

One memory from their six-year-old home renovation show stood out.

A homeowner purchased a 100-year-old home and wanted to paint the staircase a Pepto-Bismol pink, Jonathan said.

“That’s also the guy who followed Jonathan around remeasuring his measurements,” Drew said.

Their love of all things entrepreneurial began at age 7, when they started their first business. By age 18, they were buying and flipping homes, and by their mid-20s they had a real estate, design and renovation business and had worked with hundreds of clients.

The brothers started their performing careers in theater and television as child actors in Vancouver, Canada. Drew began acting in elementary school, doing improv, sketch and stand-up comedy by high school. He later booked television roles on shows such as “Smallville” and “Breaker High.”

Jonathan actively performed as a magician and illusionist in and around his hometown during his teen years. He and Drew were approached to host a home renovation show called, “My Dream Home,” which later became “Property Brothers.”

In 2015, they wrote and recorded two original tracks, “Hold On” and “Let the Night Shine In,” with country music artists Victoria Shaw and Chad Carlson. The “Hold On” video logged more than 4 million views on YouTube and charted on the Billboard Hot Country chart within the first month of release.

“Our message is to make the most out of life and love your home,” Jonathan said. “We’re all about family, and we feel like when we’re doing this show, we’re taking it a whole new level meeting our extended family.”

The Scott Brothers House Party is at 7 p.m. July 23 at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa. Tickets start at $49. For more information, call (714) 556-2787 or visit scfta.org.
