High school roundup: Huntington Beach boys’ volleyball claims Tesoro Tournament

The Huntington Beach High boys’ volleyball team went 7-0 in winning the Tesoro Tournament.

The Oilers dropped just one set in seven best-of-three matches during the two-day tournament, going the distance in the final to beat Canyon at Tesoro High on Monday.

Senior outside hitter Mitchell Bollinger was named the MVP of the tournament. Senior libero Grant Guinasso was also named to the all-tournament team.

San Clemente 3, Edison 1: The Tritons defeated the host Chargers 14-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20 in Tuesday’s nonleague match.

Santa Margarita 3, Laguna Beach 0: The host Breakers fell to the Eagles, who swept Tuesday’s nonleague match 25-23, 25-17, 25-20.

Bolsa Grande 3, Ocean View 0: The Seahawks were swept in their season opener by the host Matadors, who won 25-15, 25-20, 25-16 on Tuesday.

Junior Kermel Anwar led Ocean View with nine kills. Junior Hunter Miller had 19 assists.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Fountain Valley 13, Foothill 5: Tommy Trinh and Eric Tadros swept at No. 1 doubles for the visiting Barons in Tuesday’s nonleague match.

Justin Nguyen, Ryan Trinh and Ben Nguyen all won twice in singles for Fountain Valley (3-0), which plays at San Clemente on Thursday.

Newport Harbor 12, Mater Dei 6: Ace Thayer and Julian Hernandez swept at No. 1 doubles for the Sailors in their nonleague season opener Tuesday at Los Caballeros Racquet & Sports Club.

Andy Myers and Josh Watkins each won twice in singles for the Sailors, while Nick Nataupsky and Prescott Cook teamed to win twice at No. 2 doubles.

Newport Harbor hosts Aliso Niguel in a nonleague match Wednesday at 3 p.m.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 14, Yorba Linda 4: Senior Eric Fries had five goals for the Sea Kings in their nonleague season opener on the road Tuesday.

Senior Bobby Purcifull added two goals for CdM, which plays at Servite on Saturday at noon.

Servite 6, Newport Harbor 5: Aiden Goltz scored twice for the visiting Sailors in their nonleague season opener on Saturday.

Race Mooers, Jared Rabin and Rhett Farmer also scored for Newport Harbor, which hosts El Dorado on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Mater Dei 17, Newport Harbor 7: Adena Rothbard had four goals for the Sailors in Tuesday’s nonleague season opener on the road.

Caroline Farley scored twice and Mariana Miller added a goal for Newport Harbor, which was tied 6-6 in the second half before the Monarchs ended the game on an 11-1 run.

Newport Harbor hosts Temecula Great Oak on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

BOYS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 191, Aliso Niguel 216: Junior Guy Clauss fired a three-under-par 32, earning individual medalist honors and leading the host Sea Kings in Tuesday’s season opener at Newport Beach Country Club.

TJ Jenkins finished with a 37, follow by Ryan Shih (39), Lawrence Shih (41) and Zach Glabman (42).

Fountain Valley 200, Estancia 225: Junior Josh Vo was the individual medalist after shooting a two-over-par 38 in the Barons’ season opener at Mile Square Golf Course on Tuesday.

Fountain Valley juniors Vedant Baiswar and Ethan Nguyen each shot a 40.

SOFTBALL

Los Amigos 7, Western 5: The Lobos rallied from a 5-0 deficit after two innings to win Tuesday’s season opener at home.

Senior Lily Soto had three hits to lead Los Amigos. Junior Ashley Gonzalez had a double and a triple. Senior Michelle Islas and sophomore Carolina Alcozar chipped in with two hits apiece.

Alyssa Ledezma struck out six over seven innings.

Marina 10, Cerritos 0: Sophomore outfielder Paige Shafer went three-for-three with two stolen bases and three runs scored to lead the host Vikings in a nonleague game on Tuesday.

Junior first baseman Shayla Thomas drove in three runs for Marina (3-0).
