High school roundup: Dylan Ramirez’s four-hit day helps Huntington Beach win 11th straight baseball game

Junior Dylan Ramirez led the way in the Huntington Beach High baseball team’s 12-2 win at Fountain Valley in Sunset League play on Wednesday, going four for five with four runs batted in, two doubles and a stolen base.

The Oilers (11-2, 3-0 in league), ranked No. 5 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll, have won 11 games in a row.

Huntington Beach’s Jag Burden was two for two with a home run, two RBIs and a walk. Justin Brodt was three for four with an RBI and a walk.

Zeke Ziegler earned the win in relief. He threw three scoreless innings, striking out three and giving up three hits.

Noah Amenta went two for three with an RBI for Fountain Valley (6-5, 1-2), No. 6 in Division 2.

Both teams return to league action on Tuesday, Huntington Beach travels to Los Alamitos and the Barons will be at Edison.

Los Alamitos 6, Edison 3: Senior Derek Cleland finished two for four and two RBIs in the Chargers’ Sunset League game at home Wednesday.

Blake Morton doubled for Edison (6-7, 0-2 in league).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar 3, University 0: Senior outside hitter Brandon Browning finished with 10 kills in the host Sea Kings’ 25-14, 25-19, 25-15 sweep in a Pacific Coast League opener on Wednesday.

Max Dunk contributed six kills for CdM (12-3 overall), ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division 1.

The Sea Kings host Beckman in a league match on Friday at 5:15 p.m.

Sage Hill 3, Brethren Christian 0: Senior Logan Senn totaled 12 kills, 15 service aces and five digs for the host Lightning, who won 25-7, 25-19, 25-20 in Wednesday’s Academy League match.

Sage Hill’s Amin Sajjadian had five kills, two aces and nine assists, and Connor Martin added four kills and seven digs.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Newport Harbor 14, Laguna Hills 4: Josh Watkins swept at No. 1 singles for the Sailors in Wednesday’s nonleague home match.

The doubles teams of Nick Nataupsky and Prescott Cook, as well as Andy Myers and Julian Pearce, each swept for the Sailors (6-3).

Newport Harbor opens Sunset League play at Huntington Beach on Monday.

Costa Mesa 9, Tarbut V’Torah 9 (Costa Mesa wins 78-67 on games): The Mustangs won six doubles sets to earn the nonleague win at home Wednesday.

The teams of Victor Tran and Devon Chavero, Gavin Trueblood and Antonio Mondragon, as well as Hartley Tran and Ed Gaites, each won twice for Costa Mesa (2-5).

Costa Mesa opens Orange Coast League play when it hosts Laguna Beach on Tuesday.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Corona del Mar 88, University 81: Freshmen Karsyn Cook and Michelle Tekawy were each double event winners for the visiting Sea Kings in Wednesday’s Pacific Coast League meet.

Cook won the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 3.12 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 1:00.44, while Michelle Tekawy won the 200 individual medley (2:09.15) and the 100 breaststroke (1:06.94).

Sophie Wallace won the 100 free and was second in the 50 free for CdM.

Segerstrom 87, Ocean View 79: The host Seahawks fell in their first Golden West League meet Wednesday.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

University 110, Corona del Mar 60: The Sea Kings fell to 1-1 in the Pacific Coast League after Wednesday’s meet on the road.

Senior Ryan Schildwachter won the 100-yard breaststroke (58.04 seconds) and was second in the 200 individual medley for CdM.

Ocean View 108, Segerstrom 60: The host Seahawks prevailed in their Golden West League opener Wednesday.

Calvary Chapel 78, Estancia 54: The Eagles lost their Orange Coast League opener at home Wednesday.

BOYS’ GOLF

Edison 191, Fountain Valley 218: Junior Pete DiBernardo birdied three of the last four holes and earned individual medalist honors with an even-par 36 for the Chargers, who remained undefeated after Wednesday’s Sunset League match at SeaCliff Country Club.

Vito DiBernardo shot a 37 for Edison (9-0, 3-0 in league), and John Oatis had a 38.

Josh Vo led the Barons with a 39, while Brian Cao finished with a 40.

Laguna Beach 198, Costa Mesa 225: Breakers senior Kyle Sharp was the individual medalist with a two-over-par 37 in an Orange Coast League match at Costa Mesa Country Club on Wednesday.
