Youth basketball: Newport Lightning basketball team strikes big in July

The Newport Lightning Basketball Club’s under-13 Black team compiled a 10-1 record in July, winning the Big One Championship and finishing runner-up in the Summer Sizzle Tournament in Garden Grove.

Nic Peloso, Sanjay Tewari and Jason Plumb led the way for the Lightning.

Jordan Stucki made 29 three-pointers last month, and AJ Plumb added 18 three-pointers.

Connor Kelly, Cody Kim, Brendan Jennings and Julian Daaboul led the team in rebounding, while Plumb and John Tipton played well defensively.

Keenan Boyle was strong on both sides of the court, and he led the team in steals and assists per game.

Scott Stucki coached the Lightning.
