Corona del Mar High incoming sophomore Trinity Rodman will participate in a week-long training camp with the United States Under-17 Women’s National Soccer Team, beginning Sunday in Portland, Ore.

Rodman, 15, has previously played with the U14 and U16 national teams. She was called up by coach Mark Carr for the training camp, which will feature two matches against the England U17 Women’s National Team. The first is on Wednesday at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton. The second exhibition match will be Aug. 26 at Providence Park, the home of the Portland Thorns and Portland Timbers.

Rodman is one of 24 total players on the U.S. roster, and one of seven forwards. Of the 24 players, she is one of only four who was born in 2002. The rest were born in 2001.

Rodman was a dynamic force as a freshman for the CdM girls’ soccer team last winter. She tied for the team lead with 14 goals, helping the Sea Kings win the Pacific Coast League and advance to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs.

More recently, Rodman captured the club national title in July with her SoCal Blues 15U club team. She had two goals in the national title game, a 7-2 win over Solar Chelsea SC of Dallas.

This group of U17 players is in the first year of a two-year cycle in which they will attempt to qualify for the 2018 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay.
