City of Glendale teams with nonprofit for 68th annual Arbor Day celebration

The local nonprofit Glendale Beautiful and city of Glendale officials continued their annual tradition of encouraging residents to plant trees and enjoy nature during the community Arbor Day celebration Tuesday at Casa Adobe de San Rafael.

Thirty-nine trees were donated by community groups and individuals, starting in January, and each of the donors were honored during the ceremony. The trees will be planted throughout the city, each in the name of an organization or a donor’s friend or family member.

Last year, 80 trees were donated.

Glendale Beautiful, which coordinates tree donations for city lands, and Glendale’s Community Services and Parks Department organized the program and invited Stephanie Landrigan, director for the landscape architecture program and the horticulture and gardening program at UCLA Extension, to speak about the benefits of trees.

Mayor Vartan Gharpetian and Matt Gangi, president of Glendale Beautiful, also spoke during the program.
