Shark sighting temporarily closes Huntington Beach water to swimmers and surfers

Share

A stretch of Huntington Beach reopened Monday afternoon after being closed to swimmers and surfers following a shark sighting Sunday.

Huntington Beach lifeguards closed the water between Main Street and Goldenwest Street after a 9- or 10-foot shark was reported around 1 p.m. Sunday near the Huntington Beach Pier.

The beach itself remained open.

The sighting cut short a scholastic surfing contest near the pier.
