Laguna Beach residents remained in their apartments Monday afternoon while city police and Orange County Sheriff’s deputies searched for a person reportedly carrying a rifle, according to police.

Police received a call at 2:25 p.m. from an employee at Club Laguna apartments, who said he saw a young male with a rifle on Cozumel, not far from El Toro Road, run into one of the buildings, police Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email.

Authorities canvassed the area and received help from a Sheriff’s Department helicopter, but were unable to locate the person, Callus said.
