Three-car collision leaves a driver trapped in Costa Mesa

Firefighters pulled a trapped driver from an SUV after a crash Saturday in Costa Mesa.

The SUV ended up on its side after a three-car collision about 3 p.m. at Placentia and Adams avenues, according to police.

The driver, who was the only one in the SUV, was taken to the hospital after being extricated, Battalion Chief Kevin Diamond said.

Diamond did not know the extent of the drivers' injuries but said nobody else was hurt.

Police were investigating the cause of the crash.
