Residents rally against local home’s proposed addition

Last week, neighbors and other area residents seeking to preserve the character of Burbank’s neighborhoods rallied to block a home addition proposal from “slipping through” and resulting in what they say would be out-of-character with the surrounding homes and an encroachment on nearby residents. Cleaning up the streets

More than 40 streets rated poor and below in two Burbank neighborhoods — one in the hillside and one in the flatlands — are slated for repairs set to run from mid-February through May. The project is part of a 10-year cycle of street improvements that began in 2011 with plans to fix the worst streets in at least two neighborhoods a year. Burbank Leader

Two arrested day after car-to-car shooting

Police nabbed the suspected gunman, as well as his alleged getaway driver, in the car-to-car shooting reported on a busy freeway overpass Monday night that left one man injured, authorities said. Burbank Leader

Motorist arrested for allegedly assaulting cyclist with car

A 53-year-old Glendale woman was arrested after allegedly assaulting a bicyclist with her car on the road in Glendale, officials said. Around 4:30 p.m. Friday, a 29-year-old woman was riding her bike up San Fernando Road near Magnolia Avenue when the driver—identified as Nazik Ghazarian—reportedly pulled up next to her and swerved, striking her ankle, said Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot. Man, woman charged in park shooting

Charges were filed Tuesday against two people the suspected triggerman and the instigator in last week’s gang shooting at Robert Lundigan Park in Burbank, officials said. Burbank police believe Erik Manooki, 19, urged by Candace Richardson, 22, in an act of gang retaliation, shot a 21-year-old man Thursday evening at the park, located at 2701 Thornton Ave. Burbank Leader

Burbank man scores big with Super Bowl ad

John Burroughs High School graduate Jacob Chase, 29, was the director of the top ad in Doritos’ Crash the Super Bowl contest, which allows fan-created spots a chance at airtime during the big game. Chase was the second consecutive Burbank-based director to win the $1-million prize and a “dream job” in Hollywood. Burbank Leader

More money, more caution

Glendale Unified officials anticipate $20 million more in revenue during the next fiscal year, but with rising employee retirement costs, they still point to caution. The district expects to receive $214 million in revenue in fiscal 2016-17, according to Robert McEntire, chief business and financial officer for Glendale Unified. Glendale News-Press
