A period of below-normal temperatures will usher in the potential for rain Monday night and Tuesday, forecasters say.

A low pressure system moving across Southern California is expected to keep daytime temperatures below 70 degrees Monday, with a 20% chance of showers early Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Skies will become partly cloudy by mid-Tuesday, but the air will remain cool, with highs in the mid-60s and wind gusts of up to 35 mph in the afternoon, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Not until Friday are temperatures expected to rebound with a return of high pressure to the region, with highs into the upper 70s inland and upper 60s at the beaches, according to the weather service.

Over the weekend, temperatures are expected to be in the low 80s inland and middle 70s at the beaches under clear skies.
