Segerstrom brings ‘Beep’ and ‘Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!’ to young audiences in Costa Mesa

The Segerstrom Center’s Family Series brings two kid-friendly shows to Costa Mesa this month.
“Beep,” written by Katherine Fyffe, is an interactive children’s show from Australia’s Windmill Theatre Company about a noisy robot named Beep who comes to Mort’s Village. At first the villagers are confused by the newcomer, but eventually everyone becomes friends.
There will be pre-show activities where kids can create their own puppet robot friend and play in their Rigamajig playground.
On March 21 and 22, Segerstrom welcomes “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus (The Musical),” which recently premiered at the Kennedy Center in New York. The adaptation is written by Mo Willems, the author of the children’s book of the same name who has created many books around the Pigeon character.
The music is by Deborah Wicks La Puma, Willem’s frequent collaborator who composed his “Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed” musical that was staged at South Coast Repertory last year as part of its Theatre for Young Audiences program.
Pre-show activities include opportunities to create one’s own Mo Willems-style storybook and a photo booth with a bus backdrop.
