Fundraising concert for Feddy

A concert to benefit singer/songwriter Jason Feddy will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. June 14 at the Marine Room Tavern, 214 Ocean Ave., Laguna Beach. Feddy performs at the Festival of Arts, Sawdust Art Festival, City’s Sunset Serenades, Mozambique and other venues.

Earlier this year, Feddy was taken to the emergency room having suffered a seizure.

He does not have health insurance to cover the medical costs.

This concert is being held to help pay these bills, through the assistance of Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, a nonprofit that aims to provide financial assistance to career musicians who are struggling to make ends meet while facing illness, disability, or age-related problems.

The evening performers will include Doug Miller, David J. Carpenter, Evan Stone, Bob Hawkins, Phil Parlapiano and a few special guests.

The evening will also include a performance of “Songs by Shakespeare” with Feddy and John Gardner. The suggested donation at the door is $40. Amounts greater and smaller are gratefully accepted.

SCAA present tandem show

The Southern California Artists Assn. will host a reception and exhibition of new work by California artists Katheryn Holt and Fredric Hope titled “Water’s Edge” from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at The SoCal Artists Gallery, 3251 Laguna Canyon Road, Studio F3.

The collection of more than 40 mixed media and oil paintings will also be open to the public from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Holt and Hope share a common origin, both having grown up in the Santa Monica Bay area in the beach towns of Manhattan and Hermosa Beach.

They have also followed a similar career track, attending the esteemed Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles in the 1970’s and working for a number of subsequent years in the illustration and entertainment design fields.

In recent years they have each transitioned from commercial art to devote their efforts full time to fine art.

The exhibition marks the 41st anniversary of the artists’ first tandem show, hosted by their high school art department upon their graduation in 1969.

The exhibition will be available for viewing, by appointment only, until June 27.

DeBilzan Collection and reception

Abstract impressionist William DeBilzan will return to his Laguna Beach gallery from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday to introduce “The DeBilzan Collection” by Mario Hernandez and an artists reception.

The accessory line merges fine art and fashion, and will be accompanied by several of DeBilzan’s new paintings and sculptures by Leslie Begert and emerging artist, Ryan Heimbach.

‘Lucky Stiff’ comes to Laguna

Tony-nominated Actress Jonelle Allen (“Two Gentlemen of Verona”), Jason Graae (“Ragtime,” “A Grand Night For Singing”) and Marissa Perry (“Hairspray”) will star in a staged reading of Ahrens and Flaherty’s musical comedy “Lucky Stiff” at 7 p.m. Monday at Laguna Playhouse to benefit No Square Theatre’s Musical Theatre University.

Based on the novel “The Man Who Broke The Bank At Monte Carlo,” by Michael Butterworth, the show is a musical farce, complete with slamming doors, mistaken identities, six million bucks in diamonds and a corpse in a wheelchair, according to a news release.

Starring alongside the Broadway veterans will be No Square Theatre Founder Bree Burgess, MTU Founder David Green and a cast of local “celebrities” including Arts Commissioner Pat Kollenda; Mayor Elizabeth Pearson; director of No Square’s “Rocky Horror Show” and former Playhouse Youth Theatre Director Joe Lauderdale; and talented students and alumni of Musical Theatre University.

Tickets are $40. The event will also include a small silent and live auction to benefit production will support Musical Theatre University’s International Youth Summer Stock program.

Auditions for ‘Damn Yankees’

Gallimaufry Performing Arts will hold auditions from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 12 for its upcoming production of “Damn Yankees,” the story of a retired baseball player who sells his soul to the devil for a chance to help his beloved Washington Senators win the World Series.

Auditions will be held at Laguna Beach Parks and Recreation Dept., 515 Forest Ave.

An open dance call will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Singing auditions will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. by appointment only.

Dancers should wear appropriate clothing and shoes. Singers should prepare 32 bars of an uptempo song, and bring the sheet music in their key. An accompanist will be provided. Bring headshots and resumes if you have them.

Rehearsals begin June 21st. Performances will run in Laguna Beach from July 22nd to August 1st.

Chorale performs ‘Carmina Burana’

The Laguna Beach Chorale will present its spring concert at 2 p.m. June 13 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at 428 Park Avenue in Laguna Beach.

Directed by Daniel F. Resche, the concert will feature one of the most popular choral works of the 20th century, Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana.”

In line with this summer’s festival theme of “Eat, Drink and be Merry”, the poetry of Carmina is from a series of late 12th century poems on the topics of love and spring, drinking and pleasure, and the indifference of fate and fortune to the desires of humanity.

Tickets are $15, $10 for seniors and students. Free child care will be provided during the performance.

LCAD summer workshops

Laguna College of Art and Design will offer a color theory workshop with Jason Dowd as part of the summer program.

Color Theory will offer assignments that deal with color as it relates to value and light.

Cost is $325 for a five-week session, which runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, June 26 to July 31; registration is due June 11.
