Community Animal Network’s cages are decorated with Christmas greenery and festive bows representing the season.

Come to the weekend Fashion Island pet adoption events, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, sponsored by Russo’s Pet Experience. Meet our rescue dog, Melody, or kittens and cats. See photos of the animals online at https://www.animalnetwork.org, or call (949) 759-3646.

The buff-orange kitten named Nutmeg and her rare “female” orange siblings are just now becoming of interest to parents seeking a Christmas surprise for their toddlers.

Unfortunately, families are typically looking for a single kitten to adopt and are willing to allow it outdoors, while we seek to adopt kittens in pairs so they will be happy with an “equal energy playmate” living safely indoors.

One child was noticed crying and shouting loudly to his mom, “But, what happens if a coyote gets this one?”

The mom replied, “We’ll just get you another one.”

We have received $151 in donations this week, making $ 2,102 toward a goal of $10,000. We have been depleting our reserves to pay veterinary bills, so please consider encouraging friends and family members to keep their donations local.

Don’t be fooled by the national humane organizations’ expensive fundraising campaigns. Those charities do not do work in our area. They take valued dollars from local animal charities that struggle to help in our area.

Support local animals this holiday by mailing your checks to Community Animal Network, P.O. Box 8662 Newport Beach, CA, 92658 and memo your check “Help Local Animals” nonprofit tax ID 33-0971560.
