Homeless in Costa Mesa

Becks Hayhoe, who sits on the City Council-appointed Costa Mesa Task Force on Homelessness and is a member of the Costa Mesa Churches Consortium, will give a presentation about homelessness in the city, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Mesa Verde United Methodist Church, 1701 W. Zen and the Art of Ikebana

A Cappella 'Sing Off'

The SoCal Vocals and MEDleys, a cappella groups from USC and UCLA, will square off in a "Sing Off" in Newport Beach in a show to benefit the Young Singers of Orange County, a nonprofit children's choir. Oscar Night

Nello Cucina, the Italian restaurant at South Coast Plaza's Crystal Court, will host "Your Choice for The Oscars," a fundraiser to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Southern California. Large TV screens will be showing the Academy Awards while the restaurant will be serving a three-course buffet dinner. Tickets cost $25 each. The evening will feature an Oscar trivia contest. Grief Share Recovery Group

The Newport Center United Methodist Church will offer a support group for people affected by the loss of a loved one. The group meets from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sundays until May 27. The program is open to anyone, and the cost is $15 for the program workbook. For more information, go to

'The Borrowers'
