Newport Beach Animal Control Officer Valerie Schomburg met a black and white dog named Wilson at the Orange County Humane Society last February.

It wasn’t love at first sight, but love it became.

Schomburg happened to notice that shelter life wasn’t good for Wilson and believed his exuberant personality was misunderstood and that he was a good candidate for training.

Soon, Schomburg was transporting Wilson to dog training in Newport Beach and coming in on her days off to bathe the dog.

Wilson’s liveliness is attributed to his young age and mix of three very active breeds, says his trainer. Schomburg describes Wilson as “goofy and even clumsy at times.”

“I don’t know what made me fall in love with him,” she said, “but he is lovable, and training has helped him contain his youthful exuberance. I hope to find him a wonderful new home with an experienced dog lover.”
