One year after a women’s rally was held following President Trump’s inauguration, activists are preparing to gather for a “Sister March” during the second annual OC Women’s March.

The demonstration, to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 20 at cross streets Flower Street and Civic Center Drive in downtown Santa Ana, will reaffirm a response for women’s rights and justice at a time when many fear that their voices are being silenced, organizers said.

OC Women’s March Coalition will hold the march to show support for equality locally and to denounce sexual assault and harassment in the spirit of the recent #MeToo movement, a hashtag used on social media during the wake of sexual misconduct allegations against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

Orange County nonprofits, elected officials, activists and workers, including the Eli Home for Abused Children, Orange County Young Democrats, Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton) and Generation Change, will assemble as #MeToo Marchers for a pre-march rally at 8:30 a.m. at Angels Community Park, 200 N. Flower St., Santa Ana.

The Women’s March last year became a worldwide mass demonstration when women and men protested inequality, sexism, racism and intolerance.

The protest went global with demonstrations in more than 50 countries.
