Irvine police on Wednesday found the severely decomposed bodies of three adults in a residence in what appears to have been a murder-suicide.

Officers went to the home at 58 Riverboat at about 10:30 a.m. to do a welfare check on behalf of Canadian authorities, who had been contacted by extended family when they could not contact the relatives for more than a year, according to Lt. Bill Bingham of the Irvine Police Department.

When officers arrived they found the severely decomposed bodies, Bingham said. Police did not find any signs of forced entry in the home, and the evidence suggests it was a domestic-related incident that ended with a murder-suicide, Bingham said.

Investigators suspect the bodies were that of a father, mother and son, who lived there, but it will take some time to positively identify them because the bodies were so decomposed, Bingham said.

Bingham said investigators did not want to detail what led them to suspect a murder-suicide at this time.
