Newport Beach police save kitten from car’s undercarriage

Where she came from and where she’ll go still remain mysteries, but a small black kitten was recently rescued from a car’s undercarriage by Newport Beach police officers.

Department spokeswoman Heather Rangel said Friday details about the feline’s caper are slim, but she could say the tale began on June 28 when a citizen flagged down an officer to help remove the cat from their vehicle’s engine.

While that extraction operation was underway, the kitten somehow found its way into the undercarriage of the officer’s vehicle. Animal control officers then located and safely removed the cat, which they named Victoria for the police vehicle’s model — a Crown Victoria.

Rangel said the kitten is not currently up for adoption and is not likely to be ready for a new home for at least three weeks. Interested parties are encouraged to keep an eye out on the department’s website for availability.
