Police found a missing 12-year-old boy from Irvine at Costa Mesa High School on Wednesday, authorities said.

Kyva Roberson went missing after he was disciplined and sent to his room Monday afternoon, according to police.

Later that night he went with a neighborhood friend to a McDonald’s. A bus driver reported seeing the boy Tuesday and said he exited the bus near Mesa.

Costa Mesa police searched near the school throughout the night but didn’t see Kyva.

Wednesday, Costa Mesa police worked with the high school’s security personnel to look at security camera footage of the campus hoping to find a sign of Kyva.

As they worked in the campus security office, he walked by the doorway nonchalantly, Principal Phil D’Agostino said.

Police called him over and identified him, D’Agostino said.

“It was a combination of very professional and thorough investigation tactics with a little bit of luck,” he said.

Irvine detectives picked up the boy and took him back to his family in good health.
